Geoff Tuck is a Senior Research Scientist in CSIRO's Environment Business Unit based in Hobart, Australia. Geoff uses simulation models to inform and assist the decision-making process for marine resource managers with regard to fish population status, historical and future population impacts, and the consequences of alternative fisheries management regimes. Geoff has worked on numerous national and international fisheries, including orange roughy, Patagonian toothfish, southern bluefin tuna and blue grenadier. He also has an international reputation for his work on understanding and minimising the impacts of the incidental capture of albatrosses and petrels in industrial oceanic fishing. Geoff is currently part of CSIRO's Marine Visual Technologies team developing novel machine learning tools for the automated detection of catch from on-vessel video footage.
